🇨🇦 Sun Life + TELUS eClaims Changes Coming to Jane Monday, January 31st

Dear Jane Community Members of Canada,

You may have heard that Sun Life Financial claims will no longer be accepted through TELUS eClaims starting on January 30th, and will need to be submitted through Sun Life’s new portal instead. This change means that all practice management vendors like Jane will no longer be able to direct bill for Sunlife, and all Canadian providers will have to use Sunlife’s stand-alone portal.

To make this transition from integrated electronic billing to Portal Billing as smooth as butter for you all, we will be updating your existing Sun Life (TELUS eClaims) type insurers and any associated insurance policies to Portal Billing the morning of January 31st. This way, you’ll hardly have to lift a finger.

Jane will ensure that all new claims added to appointments on or after Monday, January 31st will be ‘Regular’ claims for the new Sun Life Portal Billing and you will not be able to submit those electronically.

So what does this mean for you? Here’s what you need to know:

  • If you have any existing electronic claims (i.e. claims that you are submitting on January 30th and/or claims that were added to appointments in the future before January 31st), you’ll need to change them to Portal Billing claims. 

  • To be extra helpful, starting on January 31st, Jane will highlight a message in the appointment panel to alert you when a claim needs to be updated. All you’ll need to do is click the claim options drop-down menu, and select ‘Disable Electronic Submission’ to submit the claim manually through Sun Life’s new portal.


Here is a quick summary of important dates:

  • Saturday, January 29th - Last day that Sun Life Financial claims can be submitted through TELUS eClaims.
  • Sunday, January 30th - Sun Life submissions must be done through the new portal.
  • Monday, January 31st - Your existing Sun Life (TELUS eClaims) insurers will be transitioned to portal billing.

Please note that if you create new claims on Sunday, January 30th, they will not be updated by Jane from eClaims to Portal Billing – that goes into effect one day later, Monday, January 31st. For those specific claims that are created on the 30th or earlier, you’ll need to manually update those in Jane then submit them through Sunlife’s portal.
