Jane's Guide Here's all the help you need to use Jane.

Tips and Gratuities

Working with Tips

Jane has two primary ways to accept or record tips: through Jane Payments Terminal, or through a payment system outside of Jane, as well as Jane’s in-app / card on file processing. No matter how you’re accepting tips through Jane, they’ll be reported on in the same way.

Tips on the Jane Payments Terminal

  • Head to your Settings > Jane Payments area
  • Click on Manage All Terminals
  • Click the pencil icon beside your terminal ✏️

This is where you’ll be able to manage your terminal, including the name of it and which Location it lives at, and Enable Tips!

*Once you’ve updated your tip percentages, it will take 2-3 minutes before those changes show up on your terminal.

NOTE: Tips on the terminal are a clinic-wide setting. There isn’t a way to enable tips for specific disciplines or practitioners.

If you want to remove the tip prompt for specific visits, you have the option to turn it off for that transaction during checking out. On the Receive Payment screen, you can uncheck the box that says ‘Allow tipping on this terminal payment?’

Tips received outside of Jane

To turn on the tip feature for your Jane account, a full access user will want to hop over to Settings > Billing Settings area, and ensure the “Tips enabled” box is checked.

This will introduce a few new areas in Jane. Most notably, the option to “Add Tip” will be present during the Receive Payment checkout process. An admin staff will be able to indicate any additional tip amount the patient may wish to add to their final total.

Once collected, part of the final payment will be allocated towards the tip and shown under the Applied To section.

Tips & Reports

If your clinic has begun collecting tips via the Jane Payments Terminal, or by enabling the outside of Jane Tips feature, a new Tips Report will also become available to you. This report will provide a central area to review tips collected by each staff member over a period of time.

The main report will show the total tip numbers for the period. However, by clicking on the magnifying glass icon, you will be able to review the individual tips for each staff, along with the patient/payer and amount.

A similar Tip summary is also available as a part of the Billing Summary Report.

Tips will also display as a line item on the Compensation Report for the respective practitioner.

If you view the Compensation Report in detail, Tips will also be included in the item-by-item breakdown.

Finally, Tips will also appear on the Transaction Report under the Applied To column. This is column is handy if you are interested to review which invoices or tips a payment has been put towards.
